When one of our resident drovers is in camp, visitors are treated to an unforgettable first‑hand recounting of life on the cattle trails — the long days, the great drives, the characters, the challenges, and the humour that shaped the droving tradition. Hearing these stories directly from someone who lived them is a rare privilege and a true outback treasure.

If a drover is not in residence, our knowledgeable volunteers are ready to step in. With advance bookings, they can guide your group through the displays, memorabilia, portraits, and equipment that bring the droving era to life. Guests will see the historic routes that formed the backbone of the great cattle drives, learn how teams worked together across vast distances, and hear stories passed down through generations.

A pre‑booked guided tour ensures your travellers receive the full Drovers Camp experience — rich storytelling, authentic history, and a warm welcome from people who care deeply about preserving this remarkable part of Australia’s heritage.

Behind the scenes at the Ball

The Denim, Dust & Diamonds Ball might shine under the lights, but its real sparkle comes from the volunteers who quietly — and sometimes not so quietly — make the magic happen.

Long before the first guests arrived in their finest country gear, volunteers were hard at work transforming the Drovers Camp into a glittering outback ballroom. They planned the tables, sold the tickets, organised seating, and handled the advertising that brought the crowd in. They hung drapery, set up lighting, and created table decorations that turned a dusty outback evening into something truly special.

On the night, volunteers greeted guests with warm country hospitality, guided them to their seats, and kept the energy flowing. At the bar, others served drinks with a smile, while more volunteers sold raffle tickets, auctioned prizes, and kept the whole event running smoothly behind the scenes.

And what a crowd they welcomed. Wonderful people from across the region arrived dressed to the nines — cowboy hats tipped just so, denim pressed, boots polished, and ballgowns swirling across the floor. The mix of outback charm and country elegance created an atmosphere that felt both celebratory and deeply connected to the heritage of the Drovers Camp.

Every laugh, every dance, every cheer from the crowd was made possible by volunteers who gave their time freely and wholeheartedly. Their dedication is what turns a good event into a great one — and a great one into a tradition worth keeping.

Volunteers make the whole event cruise along smoothly

The Bronco Branding and Station Challenge is built on skill, tradition, and outback pride — but its true heartbeat is the volunteers who give their time, energy, and spirit so generously. As the old saying goes, “Volunteers aren’t paid — not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.” And nowhere is that more evident than here at The Drovers Camp.

Families travelled in from remote stations, many of them bush‑camping for the weekend, bringing not only their enthusiasm but also the cattle generously donated for the branding exercises and competitions. Their contribution made the entire event possible.

Across the grounds you could see every generation pitching in. Station families — from older hands to kids barely tall enough to see over the rails — stepped up as timekeepers, judges, scorers, and helpers. Novice bronco branders as young as nine had their first go, cheered on by seasoned ringers who remembered their own first attempts. The older men demonstrated the traditional techniques with quiet mastery, while the talented younger ones showed that the future of bronco branding is in very capable hands. And the women and girls? They pulled their weight with skill, strength, and absolute determination, proving once again that outback work has never been just a man’s world.

Our volunteer announcers and MCs kept the program flowing smoothly, filling the arena with humour, clarity, and encouragement. Behind the scenes, volunteers served drinks, supported competitors, and made sure every visitor felt welcome.

Every moment of the weekend — every rope thrown, every calf released, every cheer from the crowd — carried the imprint of people who gave their time freely because they care about keeping these traditions alive.

This event simply could not happen without them. Their generosity, their hard work, and their outback spirit are what make the Bronco Branding and Station Challenge not just a competition, but a celebration of community, heritage, and mateship.

Thanks for visiting us and performing at the Ball

We were delighted to welcome The Gottani Sisters to the Denim, Dust & Diamonds Ball, where their vibrant harmonies and easy stage presence added a wonderful spark to the night. Pauline and Jennifer have spent decades carving out a respected place in Australian country music, performing everywhere from small-town halls to major festivals and even Nashville.

Their trademark blend of guitar, banjo, and tight sister‑harmonies has seen them share stages with legends such as Slim Dusty, Johnny Cash, Lee Conway, Redgum, and Bullamakanka, earning Golden Guitar nominations and representing Australia internationally.

At our Ball, the Gottani Sisters brought exactly what they’re known for: warmth, musicianship, and a genuine connection with the crowd. Their songs — a mix of country, country‑rock, blues, roots, and their own originals — fit perfectly with the spirit of the evening, adding moments of nostalgia, joy, and toe‑tapping energy.
