President's Report

Hi All,

First I would like to introduce myself. My name is George Peach and I am the 2011 Drovers Festival Coordinator (sounds great but just another word for lackey :) ). I am here trying to take some pressure off Liz but she won't slow down she just keeps finding more to do, I will keep trying though but you all know Liz.

Well this year is still going quickly, here we are in July, only 8 weeks 'til festival. Do not forget the dates 26th, 27th and 28th August.

We had over 500 people through the Memorabilia shed in June which is FANTASTIC, July should be even busier. The weather has been great during the day but has been a little chilly at night. Not too cold though so it is still favourable to the tourists who keep on coming.
Word of mouth is an incredible thing and it's great to see how many people, young and old, love hearing about the drovers and their lives.
Our number of visitors just gets bigger and bigger with each passing month.

Now to bad news. We lost Clargie Saltmere in June. Condolences to all his family and friends from Liz and all of us at The Drovers Camp. He will be sadly missed. May he rest in peace.

Events QueenslandVolunteers are starting to show up now so if you have some free time and can lend a hand please call us, we have lots to do and need as many hands as possible. Poor Liz, her hair gets more grey every day. Also, remember that we would love anyone who can help us during tourist season (May, June, July, August, September). We want to show as many people through the shed as possible so WE NEED YOU! Pencil us in for next year as you meet a lot of great people and have a lot of fun.

Well folks must away to get this Cattlepad to the printers, and look forward to seeing you all in August.

Yours in droving,
George Peach

And So It Begins Again

Festival time is creeping up on us again and we couldn't do it without the hard work of our volunteers. A big thankyou to our first four for the year, Evan McHugh, Lynn and Stump Adams and good old Jeff Simpson. Eugene Kostin was floating about for a while but we are not totally sure what he got up to (best not to ask I think...).

Clargie Saltmere

He will be missed by everybody that new him. Our deepest sympathy to Ruby and all her family and friends.

He was one in a million

Clargie will never be forgotten.

Clargie Saltmere has such a presence, such an aura of dignity and wisdom, that when I met him with his wife Ruby, I was awed.

Crossword Answer

A Drovers Yarn

This is a new section for Cattle Pads. We want short stories from our drovers, fact or fiction it doesn't matter (I know you have lots of them). There will be a prize for any yarn we put in Cattle Pads. So please send them in. So to get us started here is one from Liz -

Aussie Stockman's Honeymoon

An Aussie stockman and his wife had just got married and found a nice hotel for their wedding night. The man approached the front desk and asked for a room.
He said, "Were on our honeymoon and we need a nice room, with a good strong bed."
The clerk winked, "You want the Bridal?"
The drover reflected on this for a moment and then replied, "Nah, I reckon not. I'll just hold onto her ears until she gets used to it."
