2006 Festival Success PDF Print E-mail

The festival for 2006 held August 25 to 27 was a great success compared to previous years. Nominations in all events were up to double and attendances more so.
This was in part due to the race meeting on Saturday, which attracted a record crowd with guest Malcolm Johnson.

Our concert on Saturday night was a full house with guest artist John Williamson ably supported by Tom Maxwell, Gus Williams & Country Ebony and Alex Beckett. We even had a fellow who came from Italy especially for the John Williamson concert.

Bronco Branding, Art, Photography and Poetry entries set new records. The old Drovers attending were up from 34 to 53 and we think there are still a few more out there. We are not limited to drovers from this area but from all over Australia.

We were able to utilise the new Memorial Shed for the Annual Drovers Dinner.
The Art and Photography sections were also displayed in the Shed. We are still negotiating - and having little success - with the Regional Development crowd for funding applied for in August 2005.
Premier Peter Beattie, on his flying visit to open the Festival, approved another grant of $80,000.00 towards the Shed. This will go a long way towards completion for our August 2007 Festival.

Our new stage was completed with the help of a grant from Queensland Gaming Community Fund and Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo who also gave us a grandstand for the Bronco Branding area.

A 2-disc DVD set of the Festival highlights has been created and is available and can be ordered using the form on the "Contact Us" page of this website. Cost is $25 plus postage $5.

We have been advised that we have been chosen to host the 2008 Australian Bronco Branding Championships. Something to look forward to and build towards.
